Manchester United are ‘keeping tabs’ on 18-year-old Royal Antwerp star and Belgium U18 international Arthur Vermeeren, according to the Daily Mail (h/t Mirror).

The youngster recently signed a new long-term deal with the Great Old. As a result, the defensive midfielder’s new deal will now keep him at the Belgian Pro League outfit until the summer of 2026.

However, the Red Devils are eyeing Vermeeren. The Old Trafford side are keen to add future stars in the middle of the park.

Apart from Man United, Premier League rivals Newcastle United are also looking to acquire the 18-year-old’s services. The Magpies have been flying high this season.

Eddie Howe has managed to change the fortunes of the Tyneside outfit. They are currently in the race to finish in a Champions League place in the Premier League.

Antwerp value their midfielder at around £20 million. Currently, the Belgium U18 international is being managed by Mark van Bommel, who was one of the best in the number six position during his playing career, featuring for the likes of Barcelona and Bayern Munich.

Vermeeren has had to wait for his opportunities in the current campaign. However, the 18-year-old has started in every fixture for the Great Old in the Belgian Pro League since the end of the 2022 World Cup.

At the moment, Man United have veterans like Casemiro and Christian Eriksen making a difference for them in the midfield. However, with Fred, Scott McTominay and Donny van de Beek on the bench, our depth in the engine room leaves a lot to be desired.

Although, the Red Devils have some of their own exciting academy prospects like Zidane Iqbal. It remains to be seen whether Vermeeren will join the ranks in the coming future as well.
