Manchester United told to pay ‘around £40 million’ to sign PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo
Manchester United have been told to pay ‘around £40 million‘ in order to capture the signature of PSV Eindhoven star Cody Gakpo, according to GiveMeSport (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils expect to fork out the aforementioned price tag in order to acquire the 23-year-old services. While the Eredivisie outfit could accept a lower offer, the Old Trafford side do not want to ‘low-ball’ the Red and Whites with their opening bid.
United were interested in the Holland international in the recent transfer window. However, in the end, the club opted against it. However, the forward’s performances at the 2022 World Cup have made him a hot prospect.
A number of top European clubs are now eyeing Gakpo. He scored in every group-stage fixture for the Netherlands in Qatar. Louis van Gaal’s team made it to the quarter-finals of the competition. The Oranje lost to eventual champions Argentina in the penalty shootout after a valiant comeback.
The 23-year-old has been turning heads with his displays since last season. However, in the current campaign, the Holland international has taken his game to the next level.
Gakpo has made 24 appearances in all competitions for PSV this season. The 23-year-old has found the back of the net 13 times and has provided 17 assists.
The Holland international is a winger by trait. However, the forward has shown that he has a keen eye for goal. Erik ten Hag has been able to get decent output from Marcus Rashford this season playing as a striker.
Cristiano Ronaldo recently departed the club. The five-time Ballon d’Or winner’s exit has reduced our attacking options. Anthony Martial has also had injury issues in the current campaign.
