Manchester United target Arnaut Danjuma claims ‘cannot shut the door’ on Premier League
Villarreal star Arnaut Danjuma, who Manchester United were admirers of in the recent transfer window, has claimed that the door on a move to the Premier League cannot be shut.
The Red Devils had the 25-year-old in their sights as an alternative to Jadon Sancho in the summer of 2021. He had a €45 million release clause. However, the Old Trafford side opted to sign the England international from Borussia Dortmund.
Subsequently, the Holland international moved to the Yellow Submarine from AFC Bournemouth in the same window. But speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Danjuma has revealed that he is open to a return to the English top flight.
“You always have to say yes. You can’t shut the door to the Premier League. At the right time, at the right moment in my career, you always have to be open to that.”
The 25-year-old was brilliant in the previous campaign for the La Liga outfit as they made it to the semi-finals of the Champions League. He scored six goals in the competition as the Spanish side eventually lost to Liverpool in their quest to the final.
Overall, the Holland international had a decent season. In 34 appearances in all competitions for Villarreal, he scored 16 goals and provided four assists.
Danjuma also showed his versatility. He mostly played as a centre-forward. However, under current Aston Villa manager Unai Emery at the Yellow Submarine, the 25-year-old played out wide on the left as well.
United’s front line recently lost Cristiano Ronaldo. While the 37-year-old was not the first name on the team sheet under Erik ten Hag, he was pivotal in the absence of Anthony Martial.
The France international has had a hard time remaining fit this season. He has been on the sidelines for most of the campaign. As a result, Marcus Rashford has played up top a number of times.
