Erik ten Hag optimistic about making top four in the Premier League with Manchester United
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is optimistic about making it to the top four in the Premier League at the end of the 2022/23 campaign. However, the Dutch manager is aware of the competition for places in the English top flight.
Currently, the Red Devils sit fifth in the league table. We are three points behind fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur with a game in hand. Arsenal, Manchester City and Newcastle United make the top three of the table, respectively.
Speaking to the media via Mirror, Ten Hag realises that getting a Champions League place is a tough ask. However, the gaffer believes the Old Trafford side have shown enough to be up there at the end of the season.

“We’re aware the competition is tough, but that also counts for the seven or eight clubs fighting for the top four. For anyone watching the Premier League, it’s great for them, it’s very exciting for them.
“I’m looking at a process of how we are performing. Of course, we have to get the results as well, but the process is right, we’re making progress and I think we have a good opportunity and a good chance to make that top four.”
In the previous campaign, there were high expectations surrounding United after the addition of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer of 2021.
Unfortunately, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was unable to build on that momentum and was eventually sacked. The arrival of Ralf Rangnick did not change much for us as we missed out on the top four.
At the end of last season, Erik ten Hag was appointed manager of the Red Devils. The Manchester-based club started the new campaign on the wrong foot, losing the first two fixtures.

However, the Dutch manager was eventually afforded a total of six signings in the recent transfer window. The likes of Christian Eriksen, Lisandro Martinez, Casemiro and Antony have made a big impact at the Old Trafford side.
Ten Hag has also been able to bring the best out of some of the stars who struggled in the previous campaign. Marcus Rashgford and Anthony Martial have seemingly found their feet with the arrival of the Dutch head coach, while Diogo Dalot has improved considerably since the last term.

Ronaldo has also left United. The 37-year-old was not having the best of times under Ten Hag. His departure will evidently usher in a new era at the Old Trafford side. Hopefully, the former Ajax manager is able to take the club back to the glory of the past.
