Manchester United are preparing an offer of £47.2 million for South Korea and Napoli star Kim Min-jae, according to Fichajes (h/t Mirror).

The Red Devils are interested in signing the 26-year-old from the Partenopei. However, the Italian outfit are unlikely to part ways with the centre-back before the summer of 2023.

Min-jae signed for Napoli in the recent transfer window from Turkish outfit Fenerbahce. Since then, he has been impressive under Luciano Spalletti.

The Partenopei are currently at the top of the Serie A table. They have an eight-point lead over reigning champions AC Milan, who are second. The Italian outfit have only lost one game this season, against Liverpool in the Champions League.

In the current campaign, the South Korean has made 20 appearances for Napoli in all competitions, scoring two goals. He has been a solid replacement for Kalidou Koulibaly in Naples.

The centre-back also featured for South Korea at the 2022 World Cup. The Taegeuk Warriors made it to the round of 16 but were beaten handily by Brazil.

Some of United’s defenders have also shone in Qatar. Lisandro Martinez has made it to the final of the prestigious tournament with Argentina. On the other hand, Raphael Varane is also in the semi-finals with France.

Harry Maguire, who has lost his place in the starting lineup under Erik ten hag, also put in impressive displays at the World Cup. However, England could not get past Les Bleus in the quarter-finals.

Thus, the Red Devils seem to have a stacked backline at the moment. Therefore, signing Min-jae, for now, does not feel necessary, considering the quality of our squad. However, if the Old Trafford side lose someone like Maguire in the coming months, then the South Korean could be looked at.
