Record signing backed to leave Manchester United this summer

Harry Maguire could leave Manchester United this summer

As reported by Football Insider (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United defender, Harry Maguire is ‘set to leave’ the club this summer. The 31-year-old could end up being one of the sacrifices during this summer’s squad overhaul.

There have been a lot of talk suggesting that the Red Devils will be listening to offers for a lot of their stars this summer. Moreover, it seems like the team will be losing a lot of their defenders when the transfer window opens.

Raphael Varane is running out of contract at the end of the season, and Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire only have one year left on their deals. United wouldn’t want to lose them on a free transfer so could move them this summer.

Harry Maguire has somewhat resurrected during the team’s disastrous campaign this season. His recent run of form will help the team fetch a higher price for him this summer. However, Maguire’s age will probably be the biggest factor when trying to move him.

The English defender is 31 years old and will only continue to decline from here on. His pace has already dropped and he has adopted a kind of ‘old man’s game’ this season. So, the Red Devils won’t be getting a lot for Maguire.

However, the team has a plethora of players they wish to sign this summer. They could pack Maguire into one of their deals to help smooth things along. This report should be taken with a pinch of salt since there’s been no confirmation on the matter.

The most expensive defender in Manchester United history, Maguire has often fallen short of expectations. Whether his time at the Theatre of Dreams is now drawing to a close remains to be seen.
