Manchester United among five European clubs chasing La Liga defensive ace

Manchester United among clubs eyeing a move for Barcelona star Jules Kounde

As per Fichajes.net, Manchester United are one of five European clubs currently interested in Barcelona ace Jules Koundé for a summer move.

The versatile Barcelona defender is a key part of Xavi’s setup, despite the Blaugrana having had an underwhelming season compared to their league-winning run last time round.

Alongside Man United, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain, Inter Milan, and Newcastle United are also exploring their odds of landing the France international.

Barça’s financial woes mean most of their players are available for purchase for the right price regardless of how crucial they are deemed by their manager.

Koundé’s contract, worth €13.55 million gross per year as per Capology, is set to run until June 2027, giving Barça a bit of room to play hardball with his potential suitors.

Old Trafford move a hard sell

Given the predicament Man United find themselves in right now, they are going to have a hard time convincing any player to move to Old Trafford, let alone one who is already playing for a storied club with Champions League football, is earning good money, has years remaining of his contract, and is also being pursued by clubs well off the Red Devils.

Koundé would stylistically fit United very nicely, but it’s very hard to come up with reasons as to why he would want to move there this summer at all.

United have a lot of work to do in the summer, and in fact over the coming summers, to re-establish themselves as an attractive prospect. They are better off exploring other options, as they do need to reinforce themselves in the defensive positions ahead of next season.
