Luke Shaw “disappointed” with scoreless draw between Manchester United vs Newcastle
Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw was left “disappointed” after the Red Devils failed to beat Newcastle United at Old Trafford. The Premier League game on Sunday, 16 October, at the Theatre of Dreams ended in a 0-0 draw.
Man United were looking to build on their three-game winning run in all competitions. On the other hand, Eddie Howe’s team visited Manchester after a couple of emphatic victories over Fulham and Brentford in the league.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News after the fixture, Shaw expressed regret over not getting a positive result at home.
“I think overall, disappointed [with the result]. Games like this at home, we have to be winning these games, especially as a team with what we want to achieve and where we want to be.”
Craig Pawson, the referee during the Man United vs Newcastle clash, made some contentious decisions in the game. The Red Devils had two penalty shouts and a Cristiano Ronaldo goal was ruled out after the 37-year-old pounced on one of the Magpies’ free-kicks.
Man United did not create much in the opening half. The only chance of note came for Joelinton, who hit the crossbar twice in a matter of seconds with his head.
It was in the second half that we looked more threatening. Marcus Rashford came on in the 72nd minute to replace the five-time Ballon d’Or winner. And the England international created a great chance for Fred, who missed an open goal.
Rashford had a brilliant opportunity in the final minutes of the game to seal the three points. However, the 24-year-old was unable to hit his header on target.

Defensively, Man United did not look in a lot of trouble. Shaw had a decent game at left-back. The 27-year-old has been fighting with Tyrell Malacia for a place in the starting lineup this season.
Hopefully, the Red Devils can take some positives from the Newcastle game. It was our first draw of the 2022/23 campaign. However, Man United need to bounce back, with Tottenham Hotspur visiting Old Trafford next.
