Erik ten Hag offers insight into substituting Luke Shaw during the first half of Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Luton Town
Manchester United continued their winning streak thanks to a Rasmus Hojlund brace as the Red Devils sneak themselves back into contention for Champions League qualification. Ten Hag proudly claimed to have turned around a corner although he acknowledged about having a long way to go.
With all the positives at Kenilworth Road, the early substitution of Luke Shaw was a cause of concern not only for the game at hand per se but also beyond as it could have a major implication going to the conclusive side of the season.
Luke Shaw & his recent injury concerns
Luke Shaw was substituted as a “precaution” in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa last weekend, however, he recovered in time and reclaimed his spot for Erik ten Hag’s starting lineup at Kenilworth Road on Sunday.
However, he tweaked something right at the closure of the first half and walked straight into the tunnel as Manchester United subbed on Victor Lindelof.
It is due to note that when fit, Luke Shaw is one of Ten Hag’s most important players and plays an influential role in making sure Rashford has the space to express himself offensively as well.
Yet another injury blow means that he will have only played 15 games in the ongoing 2023-24 campaign with a couple of injury blows.
What did Erik ten Hag say about Shaw’s injury?
When Ten Hag was asked about the severity of Luke Shaw’s injury in his post-match press conference, he stated that this one is not just another regular knock.
“I can’t tell,” said the Dutchman in charge of United, when he was asked by BBC Radio Five Live via. Manchester United’s Official Website, about the severity of Luke Shaw’s latest injury.
“We have to wait minimum until tomorrow to see what’s going on. Clear, when you come off, it doesn’t look great.”
He also confirmed further tests will follow and this is not a ‘stunt’.
