Manchester United-linked Dan Ashworth placed on gardening leave by Newcastle United
Dan Ashworth has been linked with Manchester United, and he informed his decision to the officials at Newcastle United asking to leave on Sunday. This has prompted Newcastle to place Ashworth on gardening leave, according to the Athletic.
Ashworth has been linked to take up the technical director position at Old Trafford.
Potential block in the deal for United
According to a report by The Athletic last week, Ashworth informed Newcastle United about Manchester United’s approach, making him the top target to take on the reigns with the Red Devils.
Although the situation is more complicated than it looks, Dan Ashworth has a contract at St. James Park, and Manchester United will have to pay if they were to secure his services. Newcastle United are seeking something on the notes of £20 million for Ashworth.
For Newcastle to stop Dan from leaving for Manchester, they will have to continue paying him his full salary for the duration of his gardening leave. Meanwhile, the Reds from Manchester will continue being patient about the whole situation as they consider Dan Ashworth a long-term appointment and they don’t want to be pressured by Newcastle into paying a substantial sum for his services.
Are both the clubs speaking about any potential deal?
There is yet to be any formal approach between Newcastle United and Manchester United, although there is anticipation that this should come soon.
For now, Dan Ashworth is sent on a gardening leave by Newcastle. Coincidentally, he joined the Tyneside after leaving Brighton in February 2022 and serving a quarter of gardening leave.
Dan Ashworth has a notable experience as a technical director, as before joining Newcastle he served in the same position at Brighton for about a decade where he was an integral figure assisting the development of their men’s as well as women’s side.
The interest in Dan from Manchester United comes on the back of Sir Jim Ratcliffe reaching an agreement with the Glazers Family for the acquisition of a 25 per cent stake in the Premier League club.
