Manchester United defender Luke Shaw told his teammates that there is no room for excuses for the poor performances. Shaw claimed that every club in the Premier League has faced an injury crisis this season, rendering that excuse pointless.

United have lost 13 games in all competitions so far this season, showing vulnerabilities in both attacking and defensive phases. They have scored 18 goals in 18 matches in the Premier League which is as unfathomable as it is unacceptable.

Furthermore, the defensive fragility caused them to concede 41 goals from 26 games in all competitions. The Red Devils have already crashed out of European competition by finishing fourth in the Champions League Group A.

They have also crashed out of the Carabao Cup, the competition they won last season under manager Erik ten Hag. Ten Hag has faced a lot of scrutiny for the poor season despite receiving strong backing from the United hierarchy. The Dutchman enjoyed power in player recruitment and when he had a fallout with high-profile players.

Speaking to TNT Sports (h/t Manchester Evening News), Shaw criticized his teammates for not being good enough this season. He said:

“To be honest, now excuses, any player who steps out on the pitch for Manchester United has to be good enough to win games and that’s it really, I can’t say anything else. We can’t look at excuses, it’s tough and there have been a lot of injuries, but a lot of teams in the Premier League are picking up injuries, so we can’t be making excuses and we know it’s not good enough.”

The 28-year-old missed 16 games due to a muscle injury that he sustained at the beginning of the season. Shaw has featured as a centre-back in many games for United this season due to injuries and poor individual performances.

Shaw has received criticism of his own during his United tenure since signing for the club as a teenager. The England international has been in and out of the team because of various injuries and poor fitness levels.

United needs to get back to the winning ways to make it to the top four in the Premier League. The Red Devils cannot afford more failures and currently FA Cup is the only trophy they can compete for.
