Marcus Rashford takes aim at VAR for disallowing goal in Manchester United vs Everton tie
Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has taken aim at VAR for disallowing his goal against Everton. The Red Devils visited Goodison Park on 9 October and won 2-1.
The 24-year-old started the game alongside Anthony Martial and Antony in the front line. However, the Frenchman was later taken off for Cristiano Ronaldo almost half an hour into the game.
Alex Iwobi opened the scoring for the home side in the fifth minute. However, our new Brazilian summer signing from Ajax equalised for us at the quarter-hour mark.
Ronaldo gave the Red Devils the lead minutes before the half-time whistle. It was the Portuguese star’s 700th club career goal. The strike also opened the 37-year-old’s account in the Premier League for this season.
The second half against the Toffees did not present many chances. However, in the 82nd minute, Rashford got in behind Everton’s defence and put the ball past Jordan Pickford.
Unfortunately, the England international’s goal was later chalked off by VAR for handball. United fans felt the decision was harsh. Thankfully, we managed to keep hold of the lead. But the 24-year-old did give his reaction on Twitter (h/t Manchester Evening News) to his strike being ruled out:
David de Gea pulled off a crucial save at the end of the game to retain United’s lead. However, the Red Devils have reacted well after losing 6-3 to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Our attack has looked much better under Erik ten Hag. While only Ronaldo significantly contributed in the 2021/22 campaign, the likes of Rashford and Martial have seemingly been rejuvenated under the new manager.
