Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes gives his verdict on Cristiano Ronaldo reaching 700-goal milestone
Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 700th club goal to make it 2-1 for United against Everton at Goodison Park.
The Portuguese international became the first player ever in footballing history to find the back of the net that many times in club football. One more for the record books for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
Bruno Fernandes, who started the game as captain for Erik ten Hag gave his say on his teammate’s record while speaking to BT Sport (h/t BBC)
“It is tough still counting goals for Ronaldo because every week seems like a new record. Really happy because he has been working hard to get this goal. Today he got the goal and the win and that is the most important for him, that the team won.”
Ronaldo was not named in the starting eleven by Ten Hag as he chose Anthony Martial to lead the line. However, the 37-year-old had to be substituted in the 29th minute after Martial walked out injured.
Casemiro, who started his first league game for the club since joining them from Real Madrid this summer, robbed Alex Iowbi off the ball and played a delightful through-ball for another former Los Blancos forward.
The 37-year-old kept his calm and slotted the ball with a sweet strike past Jordan Pickford to write his name in the history books. This was also his first league goal this season and second overall in all competitions.
Marcus Rashford thought he had scored his team’s third goal, but that was ruled out because of a handball. Nevertheless, the Red Devils kept their nerve and a fantastic save from David de Gea at the end meant we got all three points.
