Casemiro has ‘surprised’ Manchester United icon Paul Scholes with his quality on the ball

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has ‘surprised’ former Red Devils Paul Scholes with his quality on the ball. The Brazilian has impressed the Old Trafford icon with his distribution.

Casemiro came on as a substitute as United were winning 2-0 over Sheriff Tiraspol. The Brazilian replaced Scott McTominay at the start of the second half in Moldova as the Red Devils came away with the three points.

Speaking on BT Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News) after the victory over Sheriff, Scholes admitted to being caught off guard by Casemiro. The Brazilian showed skills the United legend did not expect from him.

“He surprised me a little bit with his forward passing, his range of passing.

“I thought he was more of a winner, getting the ball back in midfield. It was Kroos and Modric last year; he has more to his game and showed more of a range to his game.”

Casemiro was bought for big money by United from Real Madrid. The 30-year-old was part of one of the most formidable midfields of this generation in Spain.

Alongside Toni Kroos and Luka Modric, Casemiro played in one of the most feared sides. The trio brought five Champions League trophies to Madrid playing together.

The Brazilian is no slouch. And Scholes knows a thing or two about what makes a good midfielder, having played in the Red Devils’ engine room for almost 20 successful years.

Casemiro is most known for being the enforcer in the middle of the park. The Brazilian breaks down opposition attacks by any means necessary and shields the backline.

However, there is a lot more to the 30-year-old’s game than meets the eye. Fans who have seen Casemiro play know that he is a threat in the air and brings goals to the side. The Brazilian has also, on occasions, hit some top bins from long-range.

For the time being, McTominay has done brilliantly to keep Casemiro out of the starting lineup. The Brazilian will evidently need time to settle into a new system. But the 30-year-old has all the qualities to be a cult hero at United.
