Transfer News: Ajax reject opening bid from Manchester United for Antony
According to Goal (h/t Daily Mail), Ajax have turned down the opening bid from Manchester United for signing Antony in this summer transfer window. He is one of the top targets for Erik ten Hag to help the boss facilitate the rebuilding process at Old Trafford.
The Amsterdam-based club is adamant that they will not sell Antony this summer and have slapped an outrageous £68million price tag to ward off interest. Despite that, Man United have offered £51million to Ajax with the hope that they would sell him for a reasonable amount.
However, that is not what happened, as the Eredivisie side rejected the Red Devils’ proposal to strike a deal for the Brazilian. Ajax have complete control over Antony’s future as he is tied down for three more years which has put Man United in a troubled situation at this moment.
Man Utd must not give in to the demands!
There is no doubt that the 22-year-old is one of the most exciting prospects in his position within the European top five leagues. That being said, we must not allow ourselves to be held ransom by the Dutch club in our pursuit to secure Antony’s services in this transfer window.
After all, we cannot afford to spend lavishly at a time when the need for a rebuild is very high. That means making smart signings should be the way to go forward, which makes Ajax’s demands way out of our hands due to the current circumstances.
We must somehow convince ten Hag’s former club to part ways with the South American forward this summer. Fortunately, his representatives are on our side as they are trying their very best to convince Ajax to sell Antony for a reasonable price.

Despite that, prising away Antony could be challenging considering how Ajax’s new manager Alfred Schreuder is hoping to see the winger stay with them. As such, it would be best to search for other alternative targets to cope with a scenario where Schreuder’s team would not change their stance.
After all, we have problems to solve in other areas in our ranks, which means our attempt to sign Antony must not interfere with our ability to bolster those other roles. Hence, we may have to end our interest in the attacker if Ajax remain stubborn with their asking price moving forward.
