Manchester United receive transfer boost as Lazio are willing to lower the asking price for midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic
According to Italian outlet CalcioMercato (h/t The Sun), Lazio are willing to lower their asking price for midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, which will come as a massive transfer boost for Manchester United.
Milinkovic-Savic has been one of the most consistent performers for Lazio since his move from Genk in 2015 and has turned into a regular fixture in theit first team. The player has grown to become the midfield lynchpin for the side in recent years and is currently in his prime.
The 27-year-old’s performances in Italy have seen him be linked with some top European sides, including Man United and Paris Saint-Germain. With the Serbian’s contract running out in 2024, Lazio may look to offload him this summer and cash in on their star midfielder.
The Red Devils are in need of a new midfield option ahead of the new season, given how poor their current crop of options have fared this term. It has seen the club lie in the sixth position in the Premier League table, and in danger of missing out on Champions League qualification.
Price tag lowered for Lazio star
Although Milinkovic-Savic has two years left on his current deal with Lazio, a move in the summer could seem likely as the Italian side have lowered their asking price for the midfielder. Originally valued at £85m, the Serbia international will now be available for around £67m.
Despite the Eagles lowering the price tag for their player, it is still much higher than the £55m bid that United lodged earlier, along with PSG. If they are keen to snap up the ex-Genk star and not lose him to PSG, they will need to return with a higher bid before the summer.
A massive rebuild of the squad is being expected at Old Trafford in the summer, coinciding with the arrival of Erik ten Hag as the club’s new permanent manager. The Dutchman will look to usher in a new era, getting the English giants back to the top and winning silverware once again.
The midfield has long been a weak link in the squad, and the Ajax coach will be keen to add reinforcements in the area in the upcoming transfer window. A couple of incomings and outgoings can be expected in the first team, and fans are curious to see how the side shapes up ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

One player they have targeted is Milinkovic-Savic, with United identifying the Serb as a replacement for Paul Pogba, who is set to leave Old Trafford in the summer. Nemanja Matic has also announced his departure from the club at the end of the campaign, which sees the squad stretched thin in midfield.
The Premier League side are nearly at Lazio’s reduced valuation of their player, and if ten Hag is keen on signing the midfielder as well, then we can hopefully see the club accelerate their efforts to snap him up from the Eagles.
