PSG declare Manchester United star Paul Pogba as primary target next summer

According to French publication L’Equipe (h/t Manchester Evening News), PSG have shortlisted Manchester United star Paul Pogba as their primary target in the summer transfer window. He has been surrounded by uncertainty over the past few months due to his current contract situation at Old Trafford.

Pogba is in line to become a free agent at the end of this season and has shown no signs of renewing his current deal. He could also legally engage in pre-contract agreement talks with foreign clubs this month ahead of a summer move. Paris Saint-Germain are alerted to the situation, and they are the leading contenders to getting his services.

The Ligue 1 club has contacted Mino Raiola, the Frenchman’s agent, to discuss the terms involved in a potential transfer. While they are in pole position for now, they do face competition from Real Madrid and Juventus, who are looking to take advantage of Pogba’s expiring contract at Old Trafford.

Likely summer departure?

It would be difficult to see the 28-year-old staying with us unless something drastic happens in the coming months. If the midfielder had plans to stay with us, he would have signed a renewal at the earliest to put an end to these talks. Things didn’t turn out the way we had thought when the club initially signed him.

We are in a bit of a pickle with this situation considering Pogba cost us £89million, and could now leave us on a free. Moreover, throughout his time with us, his form fluctuated and he only showed glimpses of his form with the national team and Juventus.

The France international did perform well for the most part last year, and his injury had come at an unfortunate time. But since Raiola has been in talks with the French club, it would not be too much of a reach to say that he has plans of moving to his home country.

The Manchester club should plan ahead considering the potential departure of the World Cup Winner. Him leaving would be a massive blow for us, but we have to be proactive about it and have an appropriate replacement in mind. After all, we would not want to be left in a precarious spot when we are already arguably lacking depth in the defensive midfield area.

Let’s hope that the board is ready for a seamless transition in midfield if the former Juve ace does leave us in the summer. Him going off our wage books would be a silver lining but we would have to ensure that we do not feel his absence on the pitch.

He is also a global brand in himself a world-famous footballer and hence, him leaving takes away that superstar factor from our midfielder as well. It remains to be seen if there is a chance of a turnaround surrounding the Man United superstar’s future prospects with us.
