Manchester United are in pole position to sign Marseille star Boubacar Kamara
According to transfer news from MARCA (h/t SportsWitness), Manchester United have the edge over other competitors to complete the signing of Marseille midfielder Boubacar Kamara.
The Frenchman has become a fan favourite at Marseille, having come through the ranks at the Stade Velodrome. Not only is he a consistent performer on the pitch but also a leader. This has seen him entrusted with the skipper’s armband several times this season.
Kamara is contracted with Marseille until the end of the season and would be free to leave in the summer transfer window if he fails to pen an extension. The 22-year-old could be looking for a new challenge and could end up forcing Marseille to make a decision. Amid such a situation, the French side have made him available in the ongoing transfer window rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the campaign.
Atletico Madrid chief Andrea Berta attempted to sign the midfielder by offering €5m plus in bonuses, which ultimately fell short. Marseille for their part rejected the offer and are eying a deal in the region of €10m for the youngster.
Even though L’Equipe suggests a handful of European elites including Bayern Munich are keeping track of the situation, Manchester United is believed to have the edge in the transfer race.
MARCA suggests that the Red Devils have ‘positioned themselves best’ to lure Kamara with Old Trafford, believed to be his ‘most likely destination.’ His arrival will offer some much-needed stability to what has been a rather deficient midfield roster at the Theatre of Dreams.
An asset for the future
Manchester United could be eyeing to strike a deal at the right moment, which certainly seems to be during the summer transfer window. But, interest from Atletico Madrid could push the Red Devils to preempt their move and land the player in the January transfer window.
Kamara’s incredible performance in this campaign suggests that he can help Man United tackle their problems in the middle of the park. He primarily plays in a deep-lying pivotal role and is technically proficient with the ball at his feet. Kamara’s arrival will make Ralf Ranghick’s life easier as he attempts to bring more balance to the Red Devils outfit.
