Atletico Madrid have now joined the race to sign RB Leipzig Dominik Szoboszlai and are in pole position to land his signature.

Transfer News: Manchester United are plotting a move for RB Leipzig star Dominik Szoboszlai

According to transfer news on Sports BILD (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United could seal a deal for RB Leipzig ace Dominik Szoboszlai.

The youngster was sensational for the sister club of Leipzig, RB Salzburg before he decided to come to Germany. Since signing at the start of 2021, the Hungary international has made 15 appearances and has contributed to 9 goals.

After the departure of Julian Nagelsmann, Szoboszlai was joined by his former coach Jesse Marsch at Leipzig this summer. The player also has a contract until 2026, but he still has a viable option to leave the club.

This is because the German outfit has an ‘escape’ option worked into the contracts of many of its stars. Timo Werner, Naby Keita, Ibrahima Konate, and a couple of others secured big-money moves through this option in their contract.

The Hungarian could be available for a fee in the region of £60-70million. And the winger also has suitors in the form of Man United and Atletico Madrid.

The Red Devils could be facing a shortage of attackers at the end of this season. Edinson Cavani and Jesse Lingard are likely to depart once their respective contracts expire next summer. Anthony Martial has also fallen down the pecking order, and there is no certainty over his future.

Thus, these factors coupled with the fact that United remain interested in Szoboszlai despite failing to sign him in the summer could be key to a move.

However, one does not know whether they would be willing to chunk up the big fee. Hence, the ball is in our court, and unless the Red Devils are sure about the 21-year-old, he might end up staying in Germany.
