Ashley Young has urged his former club to sign Paris Saint Germain star Marco Verratti
Speaking to Radio 5Live (h/t The Sun), Ashley Young has urged Manchester United to sign Marco Verratti from Paris Saint Germain.
The Red Devils brought in some world-beaters this summer in the form of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho, and club legend Cristiano Ronaldo. Thus, while they did strengthen in the defence and the frontline, an area that they did fail to make any additions in was the midfield line.
Although the Manchester-based club currently possess the likes of Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes, Donny van de Beek, Scott McTominay, Nemanja Matic, and Fred in their ranks, another midfielder could have added a lot of quality.
Ex-United star Ashley Young has now urged his club to sign Marco Verratti from PSG. The Englishman told Radio 5Live (h/t The Sun):
“The Michael Carrick type has been missing for years. They haven’t gone out and replaced Michael Carrick. Don’t get me wrong – Fred and McTominay are good players, but I don’t think there’s a Michael Carrick around.
“I was watching the PSG v City game yesterday, and I think Marco Verratti is the closest one, and nobody’s gone out to test the water to try to sign him. I think he would be an unbelievable signing for Manchester United.”
Michael Carrick dictated the play from midfield for a long time under Sir Alex Ferguson. Ashley Young played against the former English midfielder as well as alongside him.

Moreover, given that Paul Pogba might not stay at the club beyond this season and Nemanja Matic will enter the final year of his contract next summer, a player like Marco Verratti could add a lot of quality to the ranks.
However, after spending nearly a decade and appearing over 300 times for the French outfit, it remains to be seen whether the 28-year-old Italian will be interested in a move to England.
