PSG midfielder Marco Verratti is set to move to Al-Hilal amid interest from Manchester United
According to the Mirror, PSG midfielder Marco Verratti is set to move to Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal after the two clubs came to an agreement amid interest from Manchester United.
The Red Devils were recently linked with Verratti after it emerged that the Italian midfielder could leave Paris Saint Germain in the transfer window. German champions FC Bayern Munich were also one of the interested teams in the fray.
Now, it seems like another transfer blow for United as Verratti is set to join his former teammate Neymar in making the switch from Paris to Saudi.
Verratti will follow a wide line of players who have now made the switch from European football to Asia. The Saudi League now boasts of a good roster of talented European players, something unfathomable heading into the summer transfer window.
On the other hand, United could still be in the market to add another midfielder before the transfer window closes. We need a specific profile in midfield which could be the gel between defence and attack.
Casemiro is one of the world’s best in his role but his role is to protect the back four and act as a shield. If given too much responsibility on his shoulders to contribute to the attack as well, he would be caught on certain occasions.
Therefore, we need a profile that can complement the Brazilian and also act as a controller in the midfield as clearly Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount are better when played as attacking midfielders.
Adding Verratti to the current roster could have been a game changer for us. Unfortunately, it would appear that United must now look elsewhere.
