PSG midfielder and Manchester United target Marco Verratti close to Al-Arabi switch
Manchester United target and Paris Saint-Germain star Marco Verratti is close to joining Al-Arabi in the ongoing transfer window, according to journalist Santi Aouna on Twitter via Spanish outlet Fichajes.
The Qatari outfit are interested in acquiring the services of the midfielder this summer. To that end, they are in advanced talks with the Italy international to complete a switch from the Parisians in the coming days.
As things stand, the Doha-based club are expected to come to an agreement with the 30-year-old as well as the Parc des Princes side. While Luis Enrique has him in his plans, the former Pescara star is looking for pastures new.

As per L’Equipe via Get French Football News (h/t Mirror), the Old Trafford side are one of the teams who have their eyes on Verratti.
PSG signed Verratti in the summer of 2012. Since then, he has been a key player for the Parisians. The midfielder has been significant for the Parc des Princes side in the engine room over the years.
The Italy international is arguably still one of the best in the world. Therefore, it is surprising to see him leave for Qatar at a relatively young age.

Verratti possesses the quality and talent to play for the best teams in the world still. However, it looks like the Italian is set to spend the latter part of his career in the Middle East, but not in Saudi Arabia, where a lot of top players have already gone.
At United, the middle of the Park has relied on Casemiro in the number six position and Bruno Fernandes as the attacking midfielder. The Red Devils do not seem to have adequate cover for either of them on the bench.

Mason Mount and Christian Erik will arguably compete with each other this season for a place in the number eight position. While the former Chelsea star is more than capable of playing as a number 10, the defensive midfield role evidently lacks depth.
Verratti is a quality enforcer. The midfielder is tenacious and has the ability to control the engine room. It will seemingly be a shame if the Italian moves to Qatar so early in his career.
