Manchester United make contact with PSG for Marco Verratti
According to French outlet L’Equipe (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United have made contact with PSG over the signing of Marco Verratti.
The Italian has been told by Paris St. Germain that he is not part of their plans in the coming season and that the club will let the player leave for the right price.
Although United were not previously linked with Verrrati in the window, the two dismal performances in the opening Premier League games might change that perspective.
There were many deficiencies to take from the 2-0 defeat to Spurs but one of the main reasons was that the current midfield lacks balance as more often than not Casemiro is left alone on the counter.
Playing two advanced 8’s like Bruno Fernandes and Mason Mount could work in a well-drilled team such as Manchester City who retain possession but United on the other hand play too direct and lose possession which leads to numerous attacks in transition.
Hence, we need a controller in the midfield who can hold onto possession and be the link between defence and attack. Verratti could provide that.
However, there needs to be a question raised over the reason why PSG are willing to sell him. This is especially curious given that he was one of the few players to hold their own when things fell apart under Christophe Galtier.

We do not need another player past his prime who is coming to United to collect his last big paycheck and then lower the standard of play. It is imperative that we sign another midfielder before the transfer window closes and the decision has to be the right one who has the quality and character to play for United.
