Bruno Fernandes has revealed the penalty taker for Manchester United against Villarreal

According to a response on Twitter by Jules Breach of BT Sport (h/t Pundit Arena), Bruno Fernandes revealed that he would have taken the penalty against Villarreal in mid-week had Manchester United earned a spot-kick.

The Red Devils went head-to-head against the Spanish opposition on Wednesday night as both clubs looked to pick up their first Champions League win of the season. After losing to Young Boys two weeks ago, victory was crucial for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer & co.

Although Cristiano Ronaldo secured all three points for the club in added time, the Old Trafford outfit were not going into the game in good form. They had just suffered their first league defeat on the weekend against Aston Villa. However, they could have secured a point in the game if Bruno Fernandes had tucked away his spot-kick in borrowed time.

However, the Portuguese shot it into the skies. Post that, there was a lot of commotion regarding the fact that who should take the penalties from now on, given that a penalty specialist like Ronaldo is also present on the pitch.

Fernandes, however, revealed after the game against Villarreal that he would be the one taking the penalty had United earned one. The 26-year-old communicated this to Jules Breach of BT Sport, who later confirmed it in a Twitter response, saying (h/t Pundit Arena):

“He (Fernandes) did indeed. He told me it was him on pens last night, and the manager will decide before each game who takes the pens.”

Hence, while the attacking midfielder was on penalty duty last night, it could change in every game now. It would, thus, be interesting to see who is handed the responsibility of doing so against Everton on the weekend.

However, regardless of who takes it, the only thing United and Solskjaer might be concerned with is if the ball hits the back of the net in the end.
