Gary Neville compares Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo to Mohamed Salah
According to Sky Sports Podcast (h/t Express), Manchester United legend, Gary Neville has compared Cristiano Ronaldo to Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah.
The Reds ace joined an elite list of goalscorers when he scored his 100th goal in the Premier League last weekend. Ronaldo, however, stole the limelight with a brace on his Old Trafford return against Newcastle United.
Salah reached the milestone in 162 games. Only four players – Alan Shearer (124 games), Harry Kane (141), Sergio Aguero (147) and Thierry Henry (160) achieved the milestone in fewer games.
Unlike the quartet, Salah is not an out and out forward and more of a winger. Neville believes this is making him similar to Ronaldo who initially made it as a winger at Old Trafford.
Rival stars, the duo is joined by their single-minded devotion to score goals. Neville was particularly effusive in the duo’s praise and their record speaks for itself.
“We talk about Ronaldo being single-minded to score goals, and that’s what Salah is.”
Ronaldo has scored an incredible 676 career goals in club football. The 36-year-old led the line against Newcastle United on Saturday and is more of a striker today.
He now has 86 goals in the top flight and will soon reach a century if he keeps up his current form. With any luck, we could see the duo go up against each other for the golden boot.
