Transfer News: Manchester United could still sign Leon Goretzka this summer
According to the Express, Leon Goretzka could still stand a chance to sign for Manchester United, although, it remains to be seen whether the club decides to make a move for the German this summer.
The 26-year-old, who joined Bayern Munich three years ago, has been an integral part of the club, featuring prominently in their last three league championship triumphs and their Champions League victory in 2020. Goretzka also featured for Germany at the Euros this summer, where they eventually bowed out to England.
However, the player is out of contract next summer and with talks not progressing well, Manchester United are now eyeing a move for the player. Earlier this week, Bayern president Herbert Hainer talked about the player’s future at the club but reiterated that the club will not pay any player over and above to keep them at the club. “The players know what they have at Bayern, they are paid very well here too, everyone gets their salary. And they can win titles with us now, and also in the future. They will certainly not be kept at any cost”.
Manchester United have been interested in signing Goretzka this summer as they also have a player who is on the cusp of running down his contract in Paul Pogba.
The Frenchman is in the final year of his contract, and PSG & Real Madrid are ready to sign the 28-year-old on a free transfer next summer. Thus, it would bode well for United to sign a replacement as soon as possible.

Thus, if United do plan on signing the German this summer, they will have to act fast as there are only two weeks left until the transfer window closes. However, the Red Devils could also enter into a pre-contract agreement with the player in January itself, which would entail him to join the Old Trafford outfit on a free transfer next season.
