Transfer News: Manchester United unlikely to sign midfielder despite looking at Declan Rice and Ruben Neves

Speaking on the Football Terrace podcast (h/t Express), Eurosport’s Dean Jones spoke about Manchester United and claimed that it was unlikely that they sign a new midfielder during this window.

The club has already seen Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho join their ranks this summer. And fans would now be dreaming of another big name addition at the club before deadline day.

But according to Jones, it is unlikely that the Red Devils sign a midfielder because of Paul Pogba’s stay. He does add that the club not signing another big name would not necessarily indicate the lack of finances.

“Because Pogba hasn’t gone, and isn’t going to go, I don’t think United make a ‘significant’ signing in midfield. They do have provisions to do so.”

The journo then added that club has looked at Ruben Neves and Eduardo Camavinga, but have been priced out of a deal for West Ham United enforcer, Declan Rice.

“I’ve talked many times on here about how they’ve enquired about Camavinga, they’ve rebuilt relations with Neves and those things are true. They’ve looked at Declan Rice, but they’ve decided he’s too expensive.”

He even claimed that there could be a possibility of Pogba being convinced into signing a new contract at the club. That would be a situation that not many United fans would, or should, mind.

More Manchester United News:

At 28, Pogba continues to be one of the best midfielders in the league and his pedigree at the club and international level is proven by the 2018 FIFA World Cup and Serie A winner’s trophy cabinet. Whether he chooses to stay or leaves in the near future, however, remains to be seen.
