Manchester United hold talks for the signing of Barcelona prodigy Ilaix Moriba

According to 90min.com (h/t Liverpool Echo), Manchester United have held talks over the possibility of signing teenage midfield prodigy Ilaix Moriba from Barcelona this summer.

The 18-year-old Moriba is a product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia youth setup. The teenager made his first-team debut under Ronald Koeman earlier this year and quickly became a regular in the senior setup, finishing the 2020/21 season with 18 appearances in which he managed a goal and three assists.

Manchester United have been dealt a major blow in their efforts to land Ilaix Moriba this summer.

However, Moriba’s time at Barcelona could be nearing an end as the teenager has entered the final year of his contract with the Catalan giants. While talks have been ongoing for a while, a resolution has been not arrived at, leaving the Barcelona chiefs ‘fed up’ over the midfielder’s demands. (h/t Express)

Moriba’s situation has seemingly attracted a lot of interest from the Premier League, with the report claiming that Manchester United have already held talks with the player’s representatives over a move for the 18-year-old. In addition, Chelsea and Manchester City have also been involved in talks while Liverpool are also in negotiations.

Furthermore, the report also adds that Moriba has also been offered to the likes of Leicester City, West Ham United, Everton and Wolves while Tottenham and Arsenal are also among clubs in talks with his representatives.

While Moriba is a player with plenty of potential, the rumours of so many clubs being in talks to sign him could very well be a tactic from Barcelona or his agents in order to drum up interest in the youngster.

And even though Manchester United could stand to gain a lot by signing the 18-year-old in the future, entering a potential bidding war this summer might not be the best idea.
