Transfer News: Manchester United among clubs wanting to sign Ilaix Moriba

According to transfer news from Mirror, Manchester United are among some of the clubs that are waiting to sign Ilaix Moriba. Barcelona are in a financial mess and they are in a precarious position to sell off any player that attracts interest in a bid to trim the wage bill. Chelsea, Manchester City and PSG have also shown interest.

A youth product of Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, Moriba has been with the club for 11 years now. He has been tipped as one of the best talents to have emerged from there in recent times. Dubbed as the ‘new Pogba’, the midfielder has already been given some first-team minutes in the Copa Del Rey and La Liga this term. He even scored his first goal for the club against Osasuna.

Currently, his deal expires in a year. Talks of a new contract have been doing the rounds but there have been delays due to his wage demands. The bigger problem for Barcelona is their wage bill. It has severely exceeded the cap and they cannot offer new contracts to their existing players, let alone registering their new signings.

Due to that, the club have taken the decision to sanction the sale of some players. United have been linked with Moriba for a while now. However, there’s also the issue of a new contract not being agreed upon. Relations are a bit tense as the player has been excluded from first-team training for failing to renew. That has put clubs like United on alert.

Moriba moving to United wouldn’t be an entirely bad idea given the club’s history of nurturing young talents and pushing them to the first-team. It remains to be seen if Barcelona let go of their prized asset and how far United push to get one of the best emerging talents in Spain.
