Kieran Trippier might not move to Manchester United this summer after Solskjaer makes pivotal decision
According to the Mirror, Manchester United are not going to sign Kieran Trippier this summer as the Red Devils put away the chequebook for this transfer window.
Manchester United had a long-standing interest in Trippier this summer but were unable to match Atletico Madrid’s £34million valuation of the full-back. The Red Devils had a bid of £10million rejected earlier in June while Atletico also turned down United’s second bid of £20million, portraying that they will not budge on the player’s valuation, according to The Sun (h/t Daily Mail).
Moreover, given that Trippier had two years left on his contract, it would always be hard to lure the player out of the Madrid-based side. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is happy with the business done by United this summer and is not planning on signing a right-back anymore.
Although the Red Devils were keen on providing competition and cover to Aaron wan Bissaka at right-back, they already have a player in Diogo Dalot who can do so. The Portuguese full-back, who was on loan to AC Milan last season, impressed the Italian club, courtesy of which they wanted him back this season.
However, the Italian club have shifted their attention to Alessandro Florenzi, while Solskjaer is also happy with Dalot’s progress at the club. The Portuguese has featured in the club’s last two pre-season games, including scoring in the 4-0 victory against Everton.
Dalot has only made 20 Premier League appearances since he joined United in 2018, but things could change this season as he is finally in Solskjaer’s plans.
