Transfer News: Manchester United and Arsenal fighting to land Corentin Tolisso on the cheap

According to the German publication Bild (h/t Express), Manchester United and Arsenal are set to battle it out for Bayern Munich outcast Corentin Tolisso who could be available for just £8.5million.

The Frenchman moved to the Allianz Arena in 2017 and has since then shown fleeting glimpses of his talent. Despite forking out around £38million for his services, Bayern have every reason to feel disappointed by their investment. It may seem absurd now but back then, Tolisso was a top player and cost Bayern a record fee to land.

Unfortunately for the player, injuries turned his time in the Bundesliga into a nightmare. He has made just 96 appearances for Die Roten over the last four years, scoring 18 goals and assisting 12 more. He also missed 78 games during the same time frame thanks to various injuries.

Tolisso is deemed surplus to demands by new boss Julian Nagelksmann, who is keen to add Marcel Sabitzer to his squad. This will push the Frenchman further down the pecking order, making game time difficult to come by.

The German giants were not against renewing Tolisso’s contract but given Nagelsmann’s stand, they are open to a sale to fund incomings. With just a year left on his deal, Bayern were seeking a rather modest £17million for the player. However, with teams refusing to bite, they have further lowered their demands.

Is Corentin Tolisso on his way to Manchester United?

In fact, they are willing to part ways with Tolisso for a measly £8.5million. Despite his injury woes, Tolisso is a quality player and United could get bang for the buck should he remain fit for the majority of the season.

Offering value for money, he would add something fresh to a United central midfield too reliant on Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba for inspiration. Primarily a central midfielder, the Frenchman is a versatile player who can fulfil a host of requirements all across the pitch. Still just 27, there is plenty of football left in him and Untied would be well advised to take a punt.

Arsenal are not the only side standing in United’s way of signing Tolisso. Both Juventus and West Ham United are also interested in the player and are keeping tabs. A new adventure appears to be on the horizon for the French international.

Tolisso has made 27 appearances for the French national side and has scored twice. He was a part of his country’s World Cup-winning squad in 2018.
