Although Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has plenty of options in midfield in the form of Bruno Fernandes, Scott McTominay, Fred, Nemanja Matic, Donny van de Beek, and Paul Pogba, that may not be the case beyond the summer.
French international Paul Pogba only has a year left on his contract, and the midfielder is yet to sign an extension with the club. Moreover, there has been interest from clubs like PSG to sign the former Juventus midfielder. Even if the player does not leave this summer, there is a possibility that he could leave on a free transfer next year.
Thus, United would be clever in recruiting a replacement for the player sooner rather than later, courtesy of which the Red Devils have been interested in signing Saul Niguez this summer. The Spaniard’s ability to glide across the pitch and versatility in midfield could make him a valuable asset for the Red Devils, should he sign for the Old Trafford outfit.
While Niguez’s representatives jetted down to the UK to discuss a possible move earlier this summer, there has been no update since on the player’s future, although he is set to leave the Spanish outfit before the end of the transfer window.
United, who have already signed Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane for a combined fee of over £100million this summer, have been tipped to make a third significant signing.
