Transfer News: Atletico Madrid uneasy as Manchester United continue to monitor Kieran Trippier
According to Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United continue to maintain a keen interest in Atletico Madrid right-back Kieran Trippier.
The 30-year-old has been on the club’s radar all summer and has prior Premier League experience from his time at Tottenham Hotspur and Burnley. Despite his age, he can offer the Red Devils something they sorely lack – an attacking right-back.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka is an excellent defender but his attacking prowess is often found lacking. Adding Trippier into the squad will give Ole Gunnar Solskajer an option to mix things up this season. This could make us difficult to deal with let alone contain.
United’s interest has unsettled Atletico who are keen to keep hold of the player. He played a big role in their La Liga triumph last season and was even named in the league’s team of the season. A solid yet unspectacular Euros with England has only raised interest in his services.
Los Rojiblancos sporting director Andrea Berta is keen to finalize his squad for the upcoming season and is finding his work cut out. While the Spanish champions’ view on the transfer is well-known, United’s shadow continues to hover over them.
Trippier, for his part, has done little to reassure them either. After all the player and his family are keen to return home to England. Having come through the youth system at Manchester City, Manchester is certainly as home as it gets for the player.
United face competition for the player’s signature from Premier League rivals Arsenal. However having played for Spurs before, it will make Trippeir a pariah should he decide to don the shirt of their North London rivals. More so why someone would want to swap the Champions of Spain for what is arguably the third-best team in London remains to be seen.

Bringing in Trippier could also help United unleash the full potential of Jadon Sancho. Both players could form a fearsome combination on the right flank and overwhelm opposition defences. Add to it Sancho’s pace and Trippier’s set-piece prowess and it is easy to see why United are interested.
It promises to be a nervy few weeks for Atletico before the window slams shut for the summer.
