Transfer News: Manchester United to make an opening bid for Harry Kane this week

According to Tribal Football (h/t The Express), Manchester United are all set to make an opening bid for Tottenham Hotspur superstar Harry Kane.

The 27-year-old leads the league in both goals scored and assists made this season. With 48 goal contributions in just 47 games across all competitions, Kane is proving to be a consistent performer. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The Red Devils recently extended Edinson Cavani’s stay at the club for another season. Despite this, it would appear they are keen on signing Kane. Adding the Englishman alongside Cavani will give Ole Gunnar Solskjaer a dangerous frontline to unleash.

According to the report, United will make an opening bid of around £90million. If accepted, it will be a new club record, eclipsing the £89m we paid for Paul Pogba in 2016.

There is however little optimism at United that Daniel Levy will accept their original bid. The Red Devils are aware that Kane is growing increasingly frustrated at Tottenham after yet another trophyless season.

By making the offer, they hope to gain the striker’s attention, urging him to force his way out of North London.

Given Cavani’s age, it would be unrealistic to expect him to start every game. Add to it Anthony Martial’s sketchy form and it is clear we need another striker in the mix.

Kane and Maguire are indispensable for England

There are few better players in world football who can fill that void as conclusively as Kane. The English skipper ranks amongst the best No.9s in world football at this point in time.

The Glazers are also keen to make use of the summer window to placate supporters who are up in arms against them. Signing Kane would hand them a reprieve from prying fans unhappy with the lack of investment.
