Journalist confirms veteran star could commit to Manchester United until 2022

Uruguayan journalist confirms Edinson Cavani could commit to Manchester United until 2022

According to Uruguayan journalist Sebas Giovanelli, Manchester United star Edinson Cavani is expected to commit to the club at least until 2022.

The 34-year-old has been in the eye of the storm after his father admitted that he could be on the way back to South America in the summer. Argentine giants Boca Juniors have been heavily linked with his services.

Cavani joined United last summer, initially on a one-year deal. The club does have the option to extend the deal by another year but is yet to begin negotiations.

Giovanelli’s claim comes as a relief given our lack of reliable options in the striking department. Anthony Martial has failed to live up to expectations and Marcus Rashford, despite being prolific, is better utilized on the left flank.

According to ESPN Uruguay (h/t Sport Witness), have also chipped in to reveal that United are keen to keep the Uruguayan. The Red Devils are open to the idea that the veteran striker could end his career at the Theatre of Dreams.

Speaking ahead of the game against AC Milan, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also touched upon the topic that Cavani is unsettled at United. He has revealed his happiness at the impact the player has had and admitted that the club could extend his stay. (h/t Sky Sports)

While Cavani is not a long-term option, his presence does make our job easier from an offensive point of view. His experience and ability have also acted as inspiration for the young talents coming through the ranks at United.

As things stand, there is a lack of clarity regarding Cavani’s intentions. Giovanelli’s comments come as a welcome relief given the barrage of news on the contrary. Where the Uruguayan ends up remains to be seen.
