Man United superstar rejects lucrative £200k-a-week contract from the club

Bruno Fernandes stalls on Manchester United contract as he seeks transfer assurances

According to The Sun, midfield ace Bruno Fernandes has refused to sign a new lucrative contract with Manchester United.

The Red Devils have been in negotiations over a new £200,000-a-week contract worth five years. It comes just a year after the player made his switch to Old Trafford.

Despite his impact, Fernandes is nowhere close to being United’s best-paid player. In fact, his current terms earn him £100,000-a-week. Fernandes signed a five-and-a-half-year deal with the club in January 2020 with the option of a one-year extension.

Manchester United cannot afford to be overdependent on Bruno Fernandes

Fernandes currently lags behind both David de Gea and Paul Pogba, the club’s top two earners respectively. More than the money, it would appear he is keen to be assured regarding United’s ambition on the pitch.

He is seeking reassurances from the club regarding their intentions of competing at the top. A highly ambitious player, Fernandes’ frustrations are clear on the field when results don’t go our way.

Interestingly, three of United’s top four earners could be on the move come summer.

The club is ready to listen to offers for De Gea while Pogba’s situation is still unclear. Moreover, Edinson Cavani’s father dropped a bombshell when he revealed that his son is unhappy at United.

All three players are key members of the United squad and will be missed if they leave. Fernandes is right to question what lies ahead for the club.

United have now gone four years without a trophy. Despite many promises, we have shown little to suggest we can go all the way.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer admitting the summer window could be underwhelming, one can understand Fernandes’ concerns. There is still some way to go and it remains to be seen if Untied can assuage the player’s concerns.
