Solskjaer praises Manchester United ace Anthony Martial after derby win, Scholes concurs
Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t The Metro), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was full of praise for Manchester United star Anthony Martial following his impressive performance against Manchester City.
The Frenchman returned to the starting line-up after missing the last game against Crystal Palace. He went on to make an immediate impact by winning a penalty in the very first minute.
Bruno Fernandes converted from the spot to give the Red Devils the best of starts. They never looked to squander it and went on to win the game 2-0.
“I thought Anthony was absolutely superb today. He was more of the Anthony of old.”
The game once again showcased the impact Martial can have when he is at his best. The 25-year-old has all the talent in the world but has failed to showcase it on a consistent basis.
Coming off a knee injury sustained in training, he was a doubt for yesterday’s game. But he was ready to go from the onset and one would be forgiven for thinking he was even injured.
“Until two hours before the game, until after the warm-up to be fair, I wasn’t sure if he was going to play or not. So fantastic.”
The need for consistency
Another United legend, Paul Scholes too chipped in and backed Martial to establish himself as the club’s ace striker if he can add consistency to his game. (h/t The Metro)
He believed the Frenchman is struggling for confidence and if he can rediscover it, he can be United’s solution up front. A player capable of the spectacular, he would do well to rather be clinical.
“The lad has got real ability, he probably should’ve scored today when he had a great chance and the keeper saved.”

Martial was Untied’s top scorer in 2019/20 with 23 goals in all competitions. While there was hope that he had finally turned a corner, it proved to be a faux pas.
There is no better time than now to turn his career around and it remains to be seen if the Frenchman will take it.
