As confirmed by Raphael Varane himself in an Instagram post, the 31-year-old will be leaving Manchester United at the end of this season. It seems like the two parties couldn’t find common ground on a new contract.

Varane was making €340k a week during his time with the Red Devils. The club wished to offer him a new contract with reduced wages. However, the 31-year-old couldn’t seem to agree on a fair price it seems.

The Frenchman took to Instagram to announce his departure today and the team reacted by leaving comments under his post. Skipper, Bruno Fernandes wrote that it was a pleasure as he called Varane a ‘Rolls-Royce’.

Harry Maguire also proclaimed that it was a pleasure to play with Varane and Diogo Dalot chimed in by calling the former Real Madrid man a legend. the Frenchman made 93 appearances for the Red Devils recording two goals and one assist.

He was one of United’s best defenders during his time here. However, his last season was marred by injuries and Varane couldn’t reach the levels the fans were used to. He won’t be leaving Old Trafford without silverware though.

Varane played a key role in Erik ten Hag’s team during his first season and helped Manchester United lift the Carabao Cup. The team might’ve produced some decent results if the 31-year-old hadn’t missed 12 games due to injury this season.
