Manchester United skipper Harry Maguire aims thinly-veiled dig at Jurgen Klopp following West Brom frustration

Harry Maguire endured an extremely frustrating night as Manchester United were held to a draw at the Hawthorns.

The United skipper saw a penalty given in his favour overturned and also saw his stoppage-time header come off the bar. He also put in a questionable defensive performance and was lucky West Bromwich Albion did not take advantage of it.

Speaking to MUTV (h/t Daily Mail), Maguire made his feelings clear in his full-time press conference. He appeared to hint that Jurgen Klopp’s rant in January has seen United take the brunt of poor decisions.

“Ever since people from other teams have spoken about us we’ve had nothing, absolutely nothing.”

United were awarded a penalty when Maguire was brought down by Semi Ajayi in the second half. However, the referee Craig Pawson overturned his decision after consulting the pitchside monitor.

Maguire did have a chance to win the game late on but saw his header come off the post. In the end, it was another two points dropped in a title race that is unravelling fast.

Passing the buck!

Maguire blaming Klopp’s comments on why we couldn’t break the deadlock yesterday is embarrassing. As the captain, he must be introspecting and looking to improve than blame others for our failure.

More so, Pawson had reasons to overturn his decision. Neither was it a stonewall penalty nor was Maguire onside in the leadup to the incident.

At the end of the day, we can blame only ourselves for the points dropped.

It was another frustrating night for the Red Devils

United have now dropped points in four of their last five games. Manchester City now have a seven point advantage over us with a game in hand.

Unless we pick our pace up, it promises to be yet another disappointing season.
