Ian Wright: Manchester United make life harder for themselves
Speaking on the BBC Match of the Day (h/t Mirror,) Ian Wright has claimed that Manchester United make things harder for themselves with their slow start to games.
It was on show yesterday night as Mbaye Diagne put a struggling West Bromwich Albion a goal to the good within the second minute. The team could not have gotten off to a worse start.
United played catchup until the stroke of halftime, where an innovative finish by Bruno Fernandes drew us level. We could not, however, grab a second and had to settle for a point.
While United dominated possession, West Brom had the better chances. On another day we could have lost the game.
Wright too believes United were lucky to come away with a point. He has called out the Red Devils on their slow start, claiming it was not just a one off.
“That would be a worry for me if I was a Manchester United fan, how slow they start matches. When are they going to address that?”
The Arsenal legend is not wrong. After all, this isn’t the first time that we have conceded first this season on the road. The likes of Everton, Southampton, West Ham United, Newcastle United and Sheffield United have all opened the scoring against us.
Wright also brushed off complaints by Harry Maguire and believes the Red Devil defence was rightfully harassed by Baggies ace Diagne.
“They [Maguire and Lindelof] were bullied about by the big centre forward today. Manchester United were very fortunate not to lose that game.”

The loss now puts us seven points off top spot, having played a game more. The Red Devils have managed to garner just 10 points from the last 21, shooting themselves in the foot.
It has become a common trend under Solskjaer for the club to throw away promising positions. It would appear history is repeating again.
