Solskjaer and Bruno Fernandes clash following Manchester United draw against West Brom
According to The Daily Star, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Bruno Fernandes clashed with each other as Manchester United drew to West Brom.
It was a disappointing day out for United who dropped two points against Sam Allardyce’s relegation contenders. It could have been worse had Fernandes not volleyed home an equaliser towards the end of the first half.
Solskjaer, however, had an issue with the midfielder’s movement and urged him to make more use of the right flank.
The player however differed in his view and pointed out that space was actually down the middle. Given that he started the game centrally behind Edinson Cavani, one can understand the midfielder’s point.
“But the space is there [down the middle].”
Solskjaer however was having none of it. He pointed out to Fernandes that he was in fact impeding Anthony Martial.
“That is Antho’s [Martial] space.”
Whether it was because of Fernandes or not, Martial failed to have an impact and promptly taken off in the 66th minute.
While confusion regarding tactics is at times understandable, it is Solskjaer’s responsibility to ensure his players are well aware of the tactics before taking the pitch.
If anything, it was Fernandes’ movement down the middle that saw him in position to score United’s equaliser.
