West Ham set to approach Manchester United for defender Harry Maguire with a “Formal approach.”
West Ham are reportedly preparing to launch a new bid to sign Manchester United defender Harry Maguire with a “formal approach,” nearly 12 months after their initial interest.
Last summer, the Hammers showed an interest in bringing Maguire to the London Stadium. However, the England international decided to remain at Old Trafford with Manchester United.
With two months left in the season, clubs are already beginning to think about the summer transfer window. Premier League clubs spent over £2 billion last summer and West Ham is going to be busy again this year.
The former Leicester City defender’s contract at United is set to expire in 2025, meaning he is nearing the final 12 months of his current deal. However, United can extend his contract for another year, but West Ham are hopeful they can convince Maguire to join them.
Hammers boss David Moyes is a big fan of the centre-back and is said to be determined to sign Maguire this summer, with a £15 million offer being suggested.
He could be sold in the summer to help balance the books of Manchester United amid the desire to remain within the Financial Fair Play [FFP] guidelines.
Maguire did not start the season as one of Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s favoured centre-back choices. Due to injuries to Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane over the season, Maguire has been given numerous opportunities, with the England international appearing 23 times in all competitions, though he has missed United’s last three games due to a fitness issue.

Harry Maguire has been a sub-par player in recent times. Although he is a pretty decent defender, maybe the pressure of playing for a club like Manchester United and being the captain and everything that’s becoming for the England international is too much to handle.
