Solskjaer: Manchester United will not settle for second in the Premier League

According to Sky Sports, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has refused to throw in the towel in the Premier League title race.

The Red Devils failed to defeat relegation contenders West Bromwich Albion in a frustrating night at the Hawthorns. This has seen us fall seven points behind league leaders Manchester City who also have a game in hand.

Despite a poor run of just 10 points from the last seven games, Solskjaer remains adamant that his side will not settle for second.

“No one will give it away this early. This season is so unpredictable, life is so unpredictable, anything can happen and of course we’re not going to settle for second.”

Despite talks of bravado, Solskjaer is aware that his team will need to display results on the field to back up his declarations.

“We’re not going to let them get away with it, but we need to win games to be in that position.”

The Red Devils cannot afford to drop any points and will need to steadily chip away at City’s lead. In a season that has thrown various curveballs, there may yet be another twist in the tale.

While it can be argued that United have so far overachieved, they have also thrown away numerous opportunities from positions of strength.

Manchester United have made a formal bid for Bayern Munich star David Alaba.

Having promised so much, it will be of scant comfort to know we are the team closest to City. Solskjaer always knows what to say, but unless he can get his team to respond in kind, it is a foregone conclusion.
