Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer calls out VAR official Jon Moss

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has called out Jon Moss for his role as VAR officiator against West Brom.

The contentious incident occurred in the second half when Harry Maguire was brought down by Semi Ajayi. Referee Craig Pawson awarded United a penalty, before being told to review the decision. This in spite of Maguire being offside in the lead-up to the foul.

Solskjaer called for greater consistency and believes his side would have gained an unfair advantage due to Moss’s oversight.

“We all want consistency and a fair game and there’s human error we all expect from our game.”

VAR decisions have come under the scanner this season to their arbitrary manner of judging incidents. While technology is well and good, it is only as effective as the ones making use of it.

It is heartening to see that rather than feeling hard done, Solskjaer is standing up for what is right. The fact that Moss missed such an obvious offside decisions beggars belief. It would appear the United boss is right in suggesting someone was asleep on the job.

“I see Harry being in an offside position, so someone must have been asleep in that VAR office, Stockley Park or wherever they are. Someone needs to brew some coffee. It could’ve easily been avoided by saying he’s offside, let’s move on.”

Different referees, different opinion!

Solskjaer also brought to attention an overlooked foul in the lead up to West Brom’s opener. He and Maguire both believe Mbaye Diagne’s opener for West Brom was a foul on Victor Lindelof.

The United skipper was penalized for a similar foul in our 1-0 win over Burnley last month. To see it given yesterday would have been a frystrating sight for both Maguire and Solskjaer.

“It’s more of a foul than what Harry gave away to Burnley, to put it that way.”

Maguire, on the other hand, felt hard done by the penalty decision. He believes the officials erred in overturning the original decision to award the spot-kick.

Despite having dropped two points yet again, Solskjaer is yet to throw in the towel in the Premier League title race. We will have to do much better than yesterday if we are to have any chance.
