Manchester United chose to pursue Jadon Sancho instead of Kai Havertz

According to MEN, Manchester United turned down the opportunity to sign Kai Havertz this summer.

The German sensation eventually went on to complete a blockbuster £71m to rivals Chelsea. It could have been so different had United chose to throw their hat in for the 21-year-old.

As of yet United have been unable to reach an agreement for Sancho. According to the report, the Englishman looks set to cost us a mammoth £108m. Meeting it will make him our most expensive signing so far.

The Red Devils signed Dutchman international Donny van de Beek in a deal worth £34.6m last week. The 23-year-old is the club’s first major signing of what has been an underwhelming summer.

The report goes on to add that Havertz was keen on moving to the Premier League as early as June. He was keen to move to a Champions League club, something United eventually achieved.

Unfortunately, United did not pursue the German paving the way for him to sign for our rivals. Havertz becomes Chelsea’s seventh signing of the summer.

The Blues have also added the likes of Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Xavier Mbuyamba, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr and Thiago Silva this summer. With this the Blues have spent about £230m. (h/t Daily Mail)

As of yet, neither have we signed Sancho nor do we have a chance to sign Havertz anymore.

Only time will tell whether the decision was right. A lot could depend on whether we actually land Sancho. With just under a month to go in the window, time is running out.
