Manchester United reserve the number 7 jersey for Jadon Sancho
According to ESPN, Manchester United have put aside the number 7 jersey for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.
The iconic number previously worn by the likes of George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo has endured a few duds of late.
The last three occupants – Angel di Maria, Memphis Depay and Alexis Sanchez arrived with bloated reputations but failed to deliver after being entrusted with the famous number.
According to the report, wonderkid Mason Greenwood has been given the number 11 jersey. With the number 7 currently unoccupied, talk is rife that it has already been set aside for Sancho.
United had been in talks for Sancho for some weeks now. The deal looked to have hit a standstill but could be on the verge of resurrection.
This could be attributed to a report by Bleacher Report (h/t Express). It goes on to say that United and Dortmund have agreed to go about negotiations in a respectful manner.
The Red Devils felt too much was being leaked during the early stages of talks between the two clubs. That is the reason why things have gone relatively quiet in recent weeks.
According to ESPN (h/t Express), Ole Gunnar Solskajer has informed Ed Woodward that he is not keen on p[utting all his eggs in one basket.
The Norwegian is keen to go ahead with an alternative and has discussed three names. The list includes illustrious names such as Bayern Munich star Kingsley Coman, Juventus winger Douglas Costa and Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.
