Chris Wilder confirms Dean Henderson will extend his contract until the end of the season
According to the Independent, Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder has confirmed that Dean Henderson will extend his contract at the club until the end of the season.
The former Under-21 England custodian could pen the extension in the next two days. It is possible it can happen before the Blades play Aston Villa this Wednesday.
Wilder spoke to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer regarding the topic yesterday morning and thanked him for his cooperation regarding the issue.
“I thanked him for his co-operation with Dean and we are in the process, in the next couple of days, of finalising Dean’s stay with us until the end of the season.”
The United boss is happy with the way Henderson has progressed. It has been a mutually beneficial relationship where everyone has benefitted so far.
Wilder has also confirmed that he will be open to welcoming the player back next season. Initial conversations have taken place but an agreement has not been reached yet.
Solskjaer recently admitted that he expects Henderson to succeed David de Gea in the future. The Spaniard had extended his stay at United until 2023 by penning a new deal earlier this season. (h/t Mirror)
For now, De Gea is the undisputed number one at United. Henderson is a promising talent and his time will come. Just, not yet.
Rather than let him sit on the bench, the club will be best advised to send him on another spell to Sheffield. The Blades look set to qualify for Europe, which will give Henderson an opportunity to try him on the continental stage.
