Alexis Sanchez could be in the Manchester United squad next season
According to the Daily Star, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has revealed that Alexis Sanchez could yet have a future at Manchester United.
The 31-year-old joined United to much fanfare in 2018. He has however proven to be a colossal failure. Sanchez has registered just five goals and nine assists in 45 games for the Red Devils. (h/t Transfermarkt)
His performances saw the club dispatch him on loan to Inter Milan last summer. Injuries and a familiar loss of form have seen him struggle further at San Siro.
The Chilean’s £400k-a-week deal, combined with his recent injury history and his age are major obstacles in United’s efforts to sell him. It is extremely plausible that he will return to United for the 2020-21 campaign. (h/t Mirror)
There is a lack of faith at United that Sanchez can turn his fortunes around. With two more years to go on his contract, the club could pay him off and secure a mutual cancellation of the contract. (h/t Mirror)

Chief executive Ed Woodward, however, is not keen to take that option. The club’s finances have already been hit due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given the nature of the Chilean’s wages, it will take a significant investment from United to let him loose. (h/t Mirror)
Solskjaer is hesitant to reintroduce the player to the dressing room. The Norwegian has built a feeling of togetherness and bonhomie amongst the squad. He could risk it by throwing the Chilean into the mix. (h/t Mirror)

The harsh reality is that there may not be a place in the squad for Sanchez. The Chilean can take it on his chin and do best for the team.
United are on the cusp of something special. It is up to Sanchez to determine if he wants to be part of it.
