Manchester United to send Dean Henderson out on yet another loan spell
According to The Mirror, Manchester United look set to send Dean Henderson out on loan for the third season in a row.
This is in contrast to the 23-year-old’s wish to challenge for the number one spot at Old Trafford. Current first-choice star David de Gea has come under the scanner due to a number of high-profile errors.
This has seen some quarters call for Henderson to take over from the Spaniard. His case was further emboldened following two impressive years in goal for Sheffield United.
However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his staff believe it is yet too soon for Henderson to be given the number one jersey. They are in favour of him going out on a temporary basis. (h/t The Mirror)
According to the report, the Blades are ready to take him back on loan despite having a bid accepted for Bournemouth goalie Aaron Ramsdale. They are expected to hand in a loan application that Henderson could ultimately reject.
Solskjaer believes Henderson will gain from playing regularly elsewhere. He views it as a necessary step in the young custodian’s development. It remains to be seen if the Englishman will see things the same way.
With the European Championships to be held next summer, Henderson will need to play regularly to stake his claim on the starting spot for England.
Given the position De Gea enjoys at United, he will be better off playing regularly elsewhere than play second fiddle to the Spaniard.
There is no shortage of suitors for the impressive United star. Chelsea has identified the youngster as a replacement for under-fire keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga.
