Ole Gunnar Solskjaer backs Dean Henderson to succeed David de Gea
According to Mirror, Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed Dean Henderson to succeed David de Gea as the club’s number one.
The Spanish shot-stopper has been a constant fixture in the United line-up for the better part of the last decade. Succeeding Edwin van der Sar is no mean feat. It is fair to say that De Gea has done that job admirably. (h/t Mirror)
“Dean has made some great choices over the years and has developed fantastically.”
Although the Spaniard is currently the club’s first choice, Solskjaer has admitted that the future belongs to Henderson. A dependable keeper, he will also give England boss Gareth Southgate a solid option in goal. (h/t Mirror)
“This season has proved a great experience for him, he’s done himself some favours with his performances and proved he will be England’s No.1 and Man United’s No.1 at some point.”
Closing in on 400 appearances for the club. The 29-year-old De Gea enjoyed a mixed bag of results for the last couple of seasons. He has oscillated between the sublime and the ridiculous at times.
On the other hand, the same time period has seen Henderson go from strength to strength. On loan at Sheffield United, he has been a pivotal cog in the Blades side that won promotion and is now pushing for European qualification.
Henderson won the EFL Golden Glove in 2019 and was also a part of the English team that won the FIFA Under-20 World Cup in 2017. He is also in the running for this season’s Premier League Golden Glove.
